March 28, 2009 Memorial Benefit

The first annual gala for Keep Sound Minds (KSM) was a resounding success. The formation of KSM was the result of an unthinkable tragedy on January 11, 2008. The news contains horrific stories every
day about similar tragedies that are the direct result of untreated and unrecognized mental illness. Our mission is to prevent similar events and there is significant work to be done. The proceeds from
this fundraiser will allow the important work of the organization to continue in the pursuit of opening doors for expanded mental health education and treatment.

Over 400 people attended and enjoyed the music provided by the James Montgomery Band featuring J. Geils. There were many generous contributors to the evening. It was a privilege and an honor to have Jack Williams of WBZ as the Master of Ceremonies. Dr. Michael Jellinek and Ken Norton shared their expertise about the current deficits in the mental health system as the keynote speakers. Representative Patrick Kennedy sent a personalized video in support of the organization. Both Ken and Danielle Lambert gave heartfelt speeches about their experiences after the horrific tragedy and the
beginnings of Keep Sound Minds. Needless to say, their strength and courage were an inspiration to all who attended. We also want to thank all the many volunteers and sponsors who brought the remarkable
evening together.
The first KSM Public Service Announcement Scholarship contest was held that evening. The five finalists attended and the videos were remarkable in demonstrating the unique challenges faced by adolescents with mental illness. Several thousand dollars in scholarship funds were awarded.
Please consider joining Keep Sound Minds. An expanded member list is very important; as support is needed for legislative initiatives on mental health parity, advocacy and protective laws. In addition, please consider becoming a KSM volunteer. There are many needs, both large and small and the time requirements are very flexible. Volunteer opportunities include accounting, legal, and website support, speaking engagements, office support, research and many other tasks.
Volunteers work from their homes and offices and the time commitment can be very small. Lastly, please tell others about Keep Sound Minds. KSM needs to raise $100,000 in the next year. If you know of other volunteers and/or businesses and corporations that would be interested in helping KSM move forward with its very important mission, we would be very appreciative if you could direct them to the KSM website: www.Keepsoundminds.org. Please consider mentioning KSM to civic and business organizations.
For instance, we will provide speakers to Rotary Groups and to religious organizations about Keep Sound Minds and its goals. Your support is greatly appreciated by the Lambert, Thibault and Coady families and the Board of Directors of Keep Sound Minds.
